Queer representation in Digital games

What culture

this article opens by talking about the complete disparity of lgbtq+ representation in video games. Stating that remarkably only 5% of games have a female main character and that number is even less when considering lgbtq+ characters or people of colour

a clear representation of cis white straight hegemony with regards to representation within the gaming market. It goes on to give the example of a playable character in “Overwatch” and talks about the mixed response it’s had from the main gaming demographic

it lists several characters thereon and tells essentially the same story with all of them. I’ve found this to be a useful example – although pretty bleak, the history of queer representation in video games isn’t without it’s heroes.

Mainly it seems the development team behind Blizzard studios seem very forward thinking and very willing to give queer people a fair shot at positive representation within their games
